Brianna Richard, LCSW

Psychotherapist

Bri works with clients across the lifespan to help them develop a deeper understanding of themselves and create meaningful change in their lives and relationships. She works with clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, identity exploration, and emotional regulation. Bri honors a person’s unique expertise on their life, and holds their autonomy in the highest regard. She sees people within their broader context, and understands that intersecting identities such as: race, gender, class, sexuality, etc. can deeply impact how people experience and interact with the world.

Bri draws from a Psychodynamic and Relational theoretical foundation while integrating modalities such as CBT, mindfulness, and narrative therapy. She helps clients explore their self-hood while working to understand how they relate to their past, current, and future self. As clients engage in meaningful exploration, she supports them in uncovering wisdom that already lives within them with the goal of empowering them to make choices that align with their values. When working with children, Bri practices with a child centered play therapy approach where children use toys to build awareness and process their feelings. While working with children, she uses an ARC (attachment, regulation, and competency) framework, which helps strengthen the caregiving system. Bri works closely with parents and caregivers on learning to better understand their children’s emotional needs, managing their own stress/overwhelm, and responding effectively to behaviors.

Bri brings a warm, thoughtful, and grounding presence to the therapeutic space. She aims to co-create a trauma-informed, safe space to explore feelings without judgement. She is committed to a cultural humility mindset meaning she understands that learning about culture and intersecting identities is an ongoing process of self-reflection and curiosity.  She comes to Hillcrest having worked over five years in the mental health field including in crisis counseling, outreach/case management, milieu work, and in home therapy.
